What is Christmas?

“For unto you is born this day in the city of David, a savior which is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:11).

I like those words “unto you.” They personalize the story of Christmas. I firmly believe that if I had been the only living soul upon earth, the Lord Jesus would have come to take upon himself the form of man in order that He might die for me and to provide eternal life for a sinner such as I.

Jesus’ main purpose in coming to earth was to provide atonement for sin by His death upon the cross of Calvary.

The true meaning of Christmas is not the festivities, nor the music, nor Santa Claus, nor the exchange of gifts; it is the celebration at God’s gift of love to the world, the Savior Jesus Christ our Lord.
